Augmented Reality! THE NEW MARKETING GIMMICK FOR COOLFINDERS!

“Augmented Reality” is a shapeless word.  There are the AR smartphones that have useful apps.  But on the other hand brands are beginning to put them in there products.  When you present it to your webcam a 3D image comes out.  I think it is cool but who actually cares??  I feel like companies are trying to use this gimmick to reach out and be cool and techy when really its not going to hit.

This is a fun interactive tshirt. It is a shirt that you can play rock, paper, scissors with. By the looks of the video you have to be all tatted up to own one so I don’t think I fit the bill. It seems like a cool concept but how many people are going to actually use this? Out of the 60+ thousand of people who have watched this I really don’t think very many people will go buy one. And how much money is one of these things?

Here we got Adidas who has put an AR chip in the tongue of there sneaker to project the image of a city around them. The sneaker is cool enough. How does this gimmick relate to people??

Below is a practical application for the technology. Here is where you would use AR in a business card and project a more personal touch. I feel like it has some valuable use to interact and stand out with potential business contacts and/or a target market.

I feel that Augmented Reality applications could have some uses but for lifestyle brands to use this as a marketing gimmick. Come on! I think this is reaching. Big time!
